Walmart are the retail ‘big boys’ who have a presence in the smallest pockets of every State, however big or small your community.  Now they are also in cyber space, but can they conquer the online shopping scene?  Dozenshopping.com paid them a visit.

The Walmart store has a great navigational tool.  There are so many product categories and individual items yet they make searching for goods simple, easy and relatively quick.  Well done Walmart.

Why is it different to other stores online? We graded on originality, design, backgrounds, colors, style and innovation..

An online store of this size needs to signpost visitors to a range of products – both items they are actively looking for and some nice little extras to tempt them too.  Walmart has sections on new arrivals and items on sale and also has featured products on the home page.

There are some nice online services such as a gift registry and order tracking.We loved the creativeness of some of the site features.

There is a great ‘over the counter medicine finder’ where you type in your symptoms and a list of suitable products comes up, each of which can be interrogated further for information on active ingredients and more.There is also a way to calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) as well as a great tool to calculate the calories you burn for a range of tasks, both sporty and everyday, for example doing the ironing.

This site goes above and beyond what is necessary for an online shopping store and has thought of all those little extras that put a smile on customers’ faces.

A well organized shopping cart which factors in shipping, sizing and a gift service.  The site is secured by SSL encryption which is the industry standard. There is also a free ‘site to store’ delivery option for large products.

There is a local branch finder based around zip codes.  Information available includes detailed information including not just the opening hours but the pharmacy times and phone numbers for different departments.  You can also look up local adverts to find out about special offers.

Walmart offer their own finance options and cards as well as a BillMeLater service.  Options for payment include Amex, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Walmart credit and debit cards, MasterCard and Visa endorsed debit cards and even PayPal.  A good range.
