Macy’s boast the second largest department store in the world and have a chain of popular stores throughout the US.  We therefore had high hopes for their website when we went for an online meander through Macy’s. Read on to find out our overall impression.

Macy Moving up

Macy’s online store has a range of navigational tool and filters including the ability to search by clothing type, brand and price. The results list contains a high quality photo alongside product details and customer reviews.

All good theoretically but a little disappointing that we were channeled through too many items that were listed as being no longer available.  If you’re going to build a navigational tool it needs to take you to products that are actually available to purchase.

Why is it different to other stores online? We graded on originality, design, backgrounds, colors, style and innovation..

Some nice touches.  You can select different colored products and a picture appears of the item in your chosen color.  You can also compare your selected item to other, similar best sellers.

Like Dell, they have a visually impaired user tool advertized at the bottom of their screen in small text – nice thought, badly implemented.

Overall this online store is good but not great and certainly underwhelming for a store of their calibre.
