Onista has a mission to simplify the online trading process. They set themselves up as rivals for some of the big sites around but can this young contender stand up to the big guns on the block?  Dozenshopping.com took a look at their site.

Onista Online

The Onista site aims to simplify the buying and selling process.  It offers a different route from the auction process and does away with commissions or listing fees unlike other shops.

It is based on offering items for sale, either for a fixed price or a price sellers are willing to negotiate on.  In terms of negotiation, this takes place real-time and is not a slow, elongated process.

Selling fees are 3% of the final value.  The only other costs are optional embellishment costs for adverts placed.

What types of products can I buy and sell on this site? Or what can't I buy and sell on this site? We know the deal..

The Onista site is in alpha development and has the feel of a ghost town, there are only a few products rattling around a site which echoes with emptiness.
Their marketing of the site and subsequent ‘filling of the shelves’ is a major next step for them. These guys have got a good idea but now need to prove themselves.

Very important for marketplaces - how well organized are the product or service categories? Is it easy to find what you are looking for? Or is this a maze?.

There are different ways to locate listings.

You can ‘Find and Buy’ which is basically a free type search facility – unfortunately it did not operate well for us.  We searched for ‘television’ and drew a blank but when we went into the electrical category, we found a subcategory for TVs and, sure enough, there were some listed.

Listings can be filtered by price and whether the price is negotiable or not.

Another method of navigation is the ‘Submit Purchase Wish’ feature that forwards requests to items to Onista vendors.  You are not then inundated with spam or multiple single responses; all replies are stored together in your Onista account.  These can be filtered by price or other categories and you then simply accept of decline the individual offers.

This e-commerce site proactively searches for you which sets it apart from many other online marketplaces.

Can you contact the site with queries? This grades the email support and telephone contacts available to users..
There is a members’ forum where Q&A topics are laid out in readiness for customer queries.  The main support line is by email only.

Shipping is the responsibility of individual sellers and details are listed on the listing for each item. Some vendors may solely ship within the US, others may consider international shipping.

How interactive is this site? Is there a Facebook Group? Twitter? RSS feeds? Linked In? Forum? We found out..

The site has a blog, although the last post is a year old so they should definitely be working on updating that at this stage.

The site is designed to be a social marketplace and has discussion forums containing lots of headings set up and raring to go. Again, the mechanisms are in place, let’s see if the visitors now turn up.
