Bad Bidz

Selling is via live auctions but this site is for buyers only and is not designed for individual sellers to use to promote their own goods.  They do however, encourage affiliate marketing and suggest that many businesses use them as a supplier and resell their products on e-bay or other websites. Reselling is encouraged by Bidz.

Somehow the site lacks the excitement of user-generated sales and falls partway between a standard online store and marketplace.  On the one hand they offer an auctioning platform but on the other they control the product range themselves.  Why not go all the way and open out sales opportunities to private vendors?  These guys seem to have a bit of an identity crisis.

This is a specialist site and does not have the usual broad categories you might expect from a social marketplace.  They offer a wide range of branded jewelry only.

Clear categories are listed by material and product in this online shop. You can then filter by brand, material, gem stone, weight etc.  The site has a good navigation system.

Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, Discover, PayPal and Bill me Later, money orders and US checks tied to a physical address are all accepted by the site. Bidz also offers ‘Layaway’ which is a payment plan for those wanting to stagger payments over a set period.

Inexplicably for a site that sells its own product range, Bidz adds a 3% transaction charge when customers pay.

Quality of the information. Here we look at the quality of the product descriptions, design and images on the website. Does the content give you a good idea of how the product looks and feels?.

Bidz provide product specifications and clear pictures from multiple angles. They provide retail prices but these are inflated to ridiculous amounts.

The word all over the web is that the glitzy sales blurb does not always reflect the quality of products received by customers – one customer described the ring she purchased as being similar to that provided by a Christmas cracker.  Many customers also complained that returning products was problematic and incurred costs.

This site has a bad reputation.

There are a range of shipping options with the US, Canada and internationally all with different timescales and associated costs. Customers can select their preferred method, however, there were again negative customer complaints on the net relating to the overcharging of shipping.
