Shopzilla is one of the largest online shopping comparison networks on the web and has the catchphrase, ‘discovery made simple’.  We went to find out if they were true to their word.

Shopzilla is a killer

Products can be filtered by price and if you enter your zip code they display the price with tax and shipping included.

There is also a great price comparison grid looking at the same product across different retailers.

This site makes it effortless to search for the best deals around.

Very important for shopping comparisons - how well organized are the product or service categories? Is it easy to find what you want to compare? Or is this a maze?.

The layout of this site is a little below par; things you would expect to be on the left of the screen are situated on the right.  In addition, in the middle of January it still had ‘holiday shopping’ as a big feature on the home page.  To top it all the color scheme and design are awful.

Aside from that, the navigation tool does actually work.  The handy ‘See all Departments’ feature gave us a great overview of the site and was the quickest way of finding our products. Items are listed logically and can be filtered by rating, popularity or price.

Some items, for example electrical goods, can be shopped for by feature, so you can easily find a specific toaster, say with a retro theme, colored in black or with a bagel function.  Shopzilla does all the hard work for you, giving you extra time to choose the best bargain around.

The range of products is extremely extensive – with not just a wide choice of categories but lots of the same items to aid price comparisons.

Shopzilla boasts links to a staggering 92,000 retailers who between them offer 30 million products.  The range of products accessed through Shopzilla is second to none.

Bearing in mind the site lists 30 million products, there is an extensive range of brands available through Shopzilla.

You can filter all search results by brand and then compare the prices offered by different stores.

The site has no social options, everyone is too busy shopping to chat. There is however an RSS feed to keep shoppers in touch with site news.

It’s not particularly easy to find (see earlier comments about the design of this site) but there is a contact email lurking within the pages of this site.  See if you can find it – it took us a while!
