Lycos is on of the longest established internet companies and has many search engine sites.  This shopping comparison site aims to help customers compare shops, goods and prices to get the best deals around.

Luxury of Lycos

The navigation tool succeeds in providing a list of suitable products which are all displayed clearly.

Lycos has a great price comparison feature which shows the different prices listed by a range of retailers for the same product.  Also listed are consumer and expert reviews and comprehensive product details.  An excellent tool to determine the cheapest place to buy a product.

Very important for shopping comparisons - how well organized are the product or service categories? Is it easy to find what you want to compare? Or is this a maze?.

The home page has sections on popular products and coupons.  The navigation tool is directory style, with a list of product categories which then breaks down into sub categories.  These can then be sorted by a broad range of filters such as size, style and brands.  The top ten products are also displayed.
The navigation is quick and simple to use but it would have been nice to be able to sort the final results with a price filter.

How large is the brand range on this site? Are we limited to a narrow selection of big name brands or does this site offer real consumer choice?.
All the popular online stores and shops are listed on Lycos, as well as smaller retail outlets.  Between them you can pick up designer gear and high street brands as well as products at the cheaper end of the market.

Does the site offer a comprehensive product search tool? If so, how accurate is its findings?.
There is the odd mis-categorized item, such as the cosmetic wipes and piano sheet music we found listed in the jeans section.
Super Shop
Mainly though the search tool is effective in sorting through a huge range of retail outlets and individual products to bring customers a helpful shortlist of products to review.

Quality of the information. Here we look at the quality of the product comparisons, design and images on the website. Does the content give you a good idea of how the product looks and feels?.

You can click on listed products for further information and get channeled through to the vendor’s own site. The style and comprehensiveness of information varies between venders but generally most vendors do a great job of providing all the details you need.

Most also have helpful user reviews to aid your selection.

There is a clear FAQ and customers are mainly directed to liaise with vendors over queries but there is an email contact for problems relating to the Lycos site.
